Tom Glover

Tom Glover has been interested in stage and event lighting from early 2003, after having  a taste of backstage life, in his Year 6 production of Bugsy Malone. Tom has since worked on many productions for Coopers, Itaila Conti and other Independent Theatre and Film Groups. Since September 2010, Tom has been studying FdSc Broadcast Technology at Ravensbourne, a two year Foundation Degree, with an Optional one-year top-up to BSc (Hons) Broadcast Technology.

Over the years Tom has acquired a constantly expanding skill-set and knowledge of both theatre and broadcasting roles. Roles taken on in the past have included Lighting Designer, Lighting Console Operator, Sound Designer, Rigger, Follow Spot Operator and more. His current specialism is Lighting for Theatre, with new skills and techniques currently be acquired for Studio.

Training and Qualifications

Tom is currently studying FdSc Broadcast Technology at Ravensbourne, Which includes:

    • Studio and Location Sound
    • Cable Patching
    • Basic Production Control
  • Broadcast Technology, including:
    • Racking
    • CAR (Central Apparatus Room) Operation
    • Systems and Signals
    • Electronics
    • Broadcast Related Mathematics

Tom has also taught himself a lot of Theatre based skills including

  • Lighting, including:
    • Various Lighting Consoles
    • The DMX Protocol
    • Power Calculations
    • Safe Rigging
    • The use of Generic Lanterns
    • The use of Intelligent Lanterns
    • Follow Spot Operation
  • Basic Sound
  • Basic Projector / AV
  • Basic Pyrotechnics

Tom is currently IPAF qualified categories 1a, 3a and 3b, he trained at Kentec Training LTD in Tonbridge.

Experience

Tom is always looking for work experience in either Broadcasting or Theatre, in a variety of roles, to allow him to become a multi-skilled Broadcast Engineer.
